A security official said that based on intelligence inputs, the police and army launched a joint search operation in Patantir area of ​​Mendhar on Saturday night. He said that the hiding terrorists opened fire on the search team, leading to an exchange of fire. The official said both sides opened fire intermittently and additional troops have been dispatched to the area.

Security forces have scored a huge success in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district in the run-up to the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. In an engagement that lasted for over 12 hours, security forces killed three terrorists. The area has been cordoned off and a search operation has been carried out.

Police officers said that information was received late on Friday night about the presence of terrorists in Chak Tapar Kriri in Patan. The security forces immediately cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. As soon as the troops moved forward and saw that they were surrounded, the terrorists hiding in the dilapidated school building opened fire on the soldiers. The encounter started due to a retaliatory action by the alert soldiers.

According to the officer, floodlights were set up at the scene and multiple cordons were erected to prevent the terrorists from escaping at night. The operation was launched again in the early hours of Saturday morning and three terrorists were killed. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the dead terrorists. According to the officer, the operation took more than 12 hours to kill the terrorists.

All three are said to be associated with the TRF organisation.

According to sources, the slain terrorists were associated with the TRF group. They were identified as Junaid Rashid from Shopian and Bilal and Mahir from Ganderbal. However, this has not been officially confirmed.
