Ranchi, Dec 18 (PTI) The Jharkhand government has initiated legal action proceedings to bring about ” $The Center pays coal dues of Rs 136 crore.
The government issued a notification on Tuesday authorizing the Minister of Revenue, Registration and Land Reforms to initiate legal proceedings for the fulfillment of dues.
The development comes soon after the state government announced at its first cabinet meeting last month that it would take legal action to recover dues.
“The Minister of Revenue, Registration and Land Reforms has been nominated as the nodal officer and immediate legal action will be taken to achieve $The Center pays dues of Rs 1,360 crore.
“If a Coal India subsidiary encounters obstacles in payment of coal washing royalty, common cause fee, etc., steps should be taken to resolve the issue in consultation with the Attorney General,” the notice said.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren, after being sworn in last month, also said legal action would be taken to honor the dues.
Earlier, he had asked the Center to clear “crores of rupees” of coal tax paid to the state “with folded hands”.
On November 2, he posted on $Jharkandis 136 crores. This money is crucial for Jharkhand. ”
“I also appeal to my BJP colleagues, especially the MPs, to help Jharkandi people get our dues.”
He stressed that dues paid to central undertakings like Coal India were “just” for the state and claimed that “non-clearance is causing irreparable damage to the development of Jharkhand”.
A recent ruling by nine Supreme Court justices affirmed the state’s right to collect mining fees and royalties.
