Birthday: Today the festival of Janmashtami is being celebrated. The festival of Shri Krishna Janmashtami has great importance in Hinduism. Lord Krishna was born on this auspicious day. According to religious beliefs, devotees observe fast on Janmashtami and offer prayers with devotion. According to mythology, Shri Krishna had many devotees. One of them is Duryodhana’s wife Bhanumati.
Duryodhan’s wife’s name was Bhanumati. She was very beautiful. When Krishna came to Duryodhan’s palace as a guest, she was only 17 years old. Duryodhan hatched a conspiracy. Duryodhan thought that by making Shri Krishna drunk, he would make him make any promise. He arranged for wine along with many types of dishes in the feast. Many of Duryodhan’s friends also came to that feast and all of them got drunk. But, Shri Krishna kept himself away from all this.
Duryodhan hatched this conspiracy against Shri Krishna
Duryodhan wanted Shri Krishna to go away drunk. But what happened was that Duryodhan’s wife Bhanumati drank too much alcohol. Actually, Bhanumati was young and was not used to these things. She lost all her senses in intoxication. Bhanumati was completely unconscious and she clung to Krishna. She started expressing her desires for him.
Duryodhan’s wife became a devotee of Shri Krishna
Then Krishna took care of Bhanumati like a small child. He understood that Bhanumati’s condition had worsened. If Bhanumati did something wrong, she would not be able to control herself later. And the pride of the queen of Hastinapur would be tarnished. Therefore, Krishna picked her up and took her inside the palace. There, he left her in Gandhari’s room. The next morning when Bhanumati came to know about all this, she was filled with respect and gratitude towards Krishna. From that day onwards, she started being immersed in the devotion of Krishna.
