Stree 2 fame Jana i.e. Abhishek Banerjee’s career is flying high these days. Abhishek’s popularity is skyrocketing. The actor says that people have started recognizing him by his real name and not by his onscreen characters. He has started getting offers for center of attraction or main stream roles.
The actor said, “I think people have become aware of the names behind those characters and I can see that people are expressing love, be it on social media or on the streets.”
Abhishek’s career got a boost
Stree 2, in particular, has been breaking box office records. It is now inching towards the Rs 500 crore mark. Abhishek tells Zoom that when he started Stree in 2018, he never thought it was a small-budget film. “What matters is the vision, the kind of effort and hard work we put in. And if everyone in the unit is ready to make a big film, no matter the cost, I think it becomes a special film,” he says.
Abhishek further explained what made Stree 2 special because “everyone has made it with heart and soul. Of course, no one expected this kind of business. The audience has given us more than we expected. To be honest, I am enjoying it. I went to Dehradun to shoot and people noticed me even in the rural areas.”
Main characters being offered
However, the actor revealed that the way filmmakers are approaching him has changed a bit now. Abhishek said, “I can see that filmmakers are trying to cast me in the main role. I am reading many scripts of very big directors. It is interesting because I am excited to see what kind of responsibility they are willing to share with me. Hopefully, very soon I will announce my new film.”
Abhishek does not care about hits and flops because his job is to act. He said, “Ever since I came to Bombay, I had this idea in mind that I will not lose focus. As an actor, my job is just to act and entertain the audience. If I am able to do that, I will be successful.
Abhishek had two films releasing simultaneously on 15 August – Stree 2 and Veda. While he reprised the role of Jana in Stree 2, he played the main antagonist in Veda. Abhishek started with a small role in Rang De Basanti (2006). After this, he made his mark by acting in films like Dream Girl, Bala, Ajeeb Dastaan, Rashmi Rocket, Mirzapur and Paatal Lok.
