This time, Choudhar is appearing in the Kokernag seat in Anantnag district of Kashmir. For the first time, 10 candidates are in the fray for the seat reserved for Scheduled Tribes. Among them, six candidates have Choudhary in front of their names. From the current scenario, it seems that a three-cornered contest is going on in the seat.

A contest is expected between Zafar Chowdhury of National Conference, Harun Chowdhury of People’s Democratic Party and Gulzar Chowdhury of Independent Party. Of course, this seat is reserved for Scheduled (ST) voters, but here, non-ST voters play a major role in victory or defeat.

In Kokernagar, there are fewer tribal (ST) voters than non-ST voters. There are 28,000 ST voters, while there are 63,000 non-ST voters. In this situation, ST leaders can only hope from non-ST votes. Candidates are working hard for this.

Mubashir Ahmed, a political observer in Kokernag district, said the seat has become a focal point in the wider political landscape of south Kashmir. Especially since the ST candidates have the support of various voter groups. The influence of non-ST voters in this election cannot be underestimated. Independent Gulzar Chowdhury, PDP’s Haroon and NC’s Zafar Chowdhury are conducting rallies and meetings day and night to woo these voters.
