Jammu Kashmir Elections 2024: Voter enthusiasm was high during the first phase of voting in Jammu and Kashmir. As of 1 pm, 41% of the voting in 24 seats in the first phase had been completed. The assembly elections are being held here after a long gap after the abrogation of Article 370. The voting for 24 assembly seats in the state started at 7 am in the first phase. These include 16 seats in Kashmir and eight seats in Jammu.

Meanwhile, security forces and agencies have made tight security arrangements for the first phase of voting. In addition, the Election Commission has made special arrangements for displaced Kashmiri Pandits. Special voting centres have been set up in Delhi, Jammu and Udhampur for displaced Kashmiri Pandits. Among the regional parties, the Mehbooba Mufti-led People’s Democratic Party and Omar Abdullah-led National Conference are particularly in contention in this election. The National Conference has entered the electoral fray in alliance with the main opposition party, the Congress Party.
