Jammu and Kashmir: Four soldiers injured in an encounter with terrorists in Kishtwar, one in critical condition

Four army personnel were injured in an encounter with terrorists in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. A statement issued by the Indian Army said that security forces have cordoned off the area and the operation is still going on in the area. This encounter between the army and terrorists took place in Chatroo area of Kishtwar.

Sources have confirmed that the condition of one of the injured is critical. All have been rushed to the hospital. One of the injured security personnel has been taken to the nearby Command Hospital for treatment, while the other three are being treated locally.

Sporadic incidents of violence before elections

Based on intelligence inputs, the Army on Friday launched a joint operation with the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Chatroo area of Kishtwar. Jammu and Kashmir has been witnessing sporadic incidents of violence ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. The upcoming elections are the first assembly elections in the region in 10 years.

Two terrorists killed in Basantgarh

Two terrorists were killed in an encounter in Basantgarh near the Kathua-Udhampur border in the Union Territory on Wednesday. Earlier in the day, there was an exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists in Udhampur district. On receiving information about the presence of terrorists in the area, paramilitary forces and police personnel reached Basantgarh and cordoned off the area.

The encounter took place just hours after a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was injured following unprovoked firing by Pakistani Rangers along the Line of Control (LoC) in Akhnoor sector of Jammu.
