In preparation for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections 2024, a significant meeting was convened by General Observer Aditya Negi for Assembly Constituencies (AC) 52-Doda and 53-Doda West. The meeting, which took place recently, included key officials such as Returning Officer (RO) Sunil Kumar Bhutyal for AC 52-Doda and RO Ashok Kumar for AC 53-Doda West. The primary focus of the gathering was to ensure that the district is adequately prepared for the elections scheduled to occur from September 18 to October 1, 2024.

The meeting underscored several critical aspects essential for the smooth conduct of the elections. A major emphasis was placed on arrangements for disabled voters, ensuring that polling stations are accessible and equipped with necessary facilities such as reserved seating and transportation options. This initiative aims to facilitate an inclusive voting experience for all citizens.

General Observer Negi reviewed vital logistical arrangements, including:

  • Deployment of Polling Staff: Ensuring that adequate personnel are assigned to manage polling stations effectively.
  • Training Sessions: Conducting thorough training for election officials to handle various electoral processes, including the operation of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

Both Returning Officers provided comprehensive updates on the preparations underway in their respective constituencies. They highlighted the implementation of special measures designed to assist disabled voters, which include:

  • Accessible polling stations equipped with ramps and other facilities.
  • Reserved seating arrangements at polling locations.
  • Transportation services to help voters reach polling stations with ease.

Additionally, the officers emphasized the importance of adhering to the Model Code of Conduct, which is crucial for maintaining law and order during the electoral process. They discussed contingency plans, voter awareness campaigns under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program, and security strategies, particularly in sensitive regions.

General Observer Negi commended the district administration for its proactive efforts in preparing for the elections. He stressed the necessity of upholding electoral integrity and fostering an inclusive environment for all voters. This commitment is particularly significant given that these elections mark the first assembly elections since the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status in 2019.

Looking ahead, further meetings and field visits are scheduled to monitor the progress of polling station preparations and to address any emerging challenges. The meeting also included key Nodal officers and election staff, marking a vital step in finalizing the district’s election plans.

As the election dates approach, the focus on ensuring a well-organized and inclusive electoral process remains paramount, reflecting the administration’s dedication to facilitating a fair and accessible voting experience for all citizens of Jammu and Kashmir.
