Cyclonic storm Dana is moving rapidly towards the Bay of Bengal. Odisha will be worst affected by this storm. Keeping this in mind, the Odisha government has made various preparations. The Odisha government has closed two major temples in the state – Jagannath Temple and Konark Temple – for devotees. The order is currently in effect until October 25. The situation will be assessed thereafter. The government will then take a decision to open these temples.
Let us tell you that ‘Dharna’ will transform into a severe cyclonic storm on October 24 (Thursday) and will make landfall in Odisha-West Bengal on the morning of October 25 with a speed of 100-110 kilometers per hour Bang Coast. According to IMD, wind speed can reach up to 120 kilometers per hour during this period.
The Puri meteorological department has directed fishermen to stay away from the sea in view of the possibility of storm. The NDRF team is ready to respond to any situation and keep people away from the sea. Meanwhile, the Railways is also on alert against cyclonic storms. Dozens of trains on Odisha and Bengal routes have been cancelled. South 24 Parganas also held a meeting of administrative officers regarding Cyclone Dana. In response to the emergency, the government has sent hundreds of tons of foodgrains and food items to Odisha.
