In fact, the first mobile call in India was made on this day itself. On July 31, 1995, the then Chief Minister of West Bengal Jyoti Basu made the first mobile call. He made the first call to Union Communication Minister Sukhram. The first mobile call in India was made from a Nokia phone.

On which network was the first call made?

Today 29 years have passed since this call. This call was made through Modi Telstra’s MobileNet, which was a joint venture between BK Modi of India and Telstra of Australia. This voice call was made between two locations – Kolkata and New Delhi.

Market changed after 2016

Consumers mostly get data focused recharge. There are some plans that focus on calling, but most of the plans focus on data. This change in the telecom sector came after the year 2016, when Jio entered the Indian market. Before that, consumers had to spend more money for internet recharge plans.

However, now you mostly get bundled plans in the market, in which there is less focus on calling and data. With more plans, you will get features like daily 100 SMS and unlimited voice calling. You have to pay according to different daily data. That means the entire focus of the companies is on data.
