The Allahabad High Court has made important comments on the long-running legal battle between an elderly couple over alimony. The court said Kalyug seemed to have arrived and such legal disputes deserved attention.

The thing is about Aligarh. There, 80-year-old Munesh Kumar Gupta has retired as health department director. There has been a property dispute between his wife Gayatri Devi (76) since 2018. The matter was reported to police and referred to the Family Advice Centre. However, things didn’t work out. After that, the two began to live apart.

Wife asked for repairs

Gayatri Devi filed a petition in the family court stating that her husband’s pension was approximately Rs 35,000. He had sought Rs 15,000 a month as maintenance, but the family court in its February 16 order had sought Rs 5,000 alimony. The husband challenged this in the High Court and a hearing is ongoing.

‘Such legal disputes are worrying’

Justice Saurabh Shyam Shamsheri was hearing the petition. He commented that the Kalyug seemed to have arrived and that such legal disputes deserved attention. He also tried to give the couple advice.

Gayatri says we have asked for alimony and the family court has ruled in our favour. Thereafter, the husband challenged the court order.

At present, the High Court has issued a notice to Gayatri and said that we hope she can reach a settlement at the next hearing.
