Khan Younis (Gaza Strip): Israel’s destruction of Gaza continues even after the deaths of hundreds of senior Hamas commanders, including Hamas leaders Ismail Haniyeh and Yahya Sinwar. On Wednesday, Israel launched heavy air strikes in the past 24 hours, killing at least 21 people in a camp for displaced Palestinians in southern Gaza. The Israeli military said it was targeting high-level Hamas militants “involved in terrorist activities” in the region. However, the Israeli military did not provide any additional information and said it had done its best to ensure that there were no civilian casualties in the attack.
The attack on the al-Mowasi tent camp was one of several deadly attacks in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday. Israeli attacks on central Gaza have killed at least 10 people, including four children, according to Palestinian doctors. There is no end in sight for Israel’s devastating war in Gaza, which has lasted nearly 14 months since Hamas launched its attack in October 2023. Hamas still holds many Israeli civilians hostage, and much of Gaza’s population has been displaced and relies on international food aid to survive.
More than 28 people injured
Atif al-Hout, director of the hospital in the southern city of Khan Younis Nasser, said at least 28 people were wounded in Wednesday’s attack in al-Mowasi. Moisy, home to millions of displaced people, has few public services. An Associated Press (AP) reporter saw at least 15 bodies at the hospital. Shortly after the attack, Al-Awda Hospital said an attack on a residential area in the Nusserrat refugee camp left two people dead and 38 injured. The military had no immediate comment on the attack but said earlier strikes in central Gaza had targeted “terrorist positions.” (Associated Press)
