Israel launches worst attack on Hezbollah-controlled areas in Lebanon, killing 20

Beirut/Jerusalem The Israeli army launched a large-scale air strike on the southern suburbs of Beirut. It was the worst-ever attack on territory controlled by Hezbollah in Lebanon. Israeli forces carried out the attack in central Lebanon, killing more than 20 people. Thick smoke billowed over Beirut on Tuesday morning as nearly a dozen attacks occurred in Lebanon’s southern suburbs.

After issuing a warning to civilians on social media, the Israeli military said it had attacked Hezbollah positions in Beirut’s Dahiya district and later said it had destroyed much of the group’s weapons and missile facilities. Israel said it had taken steps to minimize harm to civilians and reiterated previous accusations that Hezbollah deliberately entered civilian areas and used residents as human shields. However, Hezbollah denied the accusation.

Hezbollah also retaliates against Israel

Israeli police said an attack on a residential building in the northern Israeli city of Nahariya left two people dead. Hezbollah later claimed responsibility for the drone strike, saying it targeted a military base east of Nahariya. The military says Israelis are being forced to seek asylum due to drone strikes in northern areas. Children were taken to shelters after an explosion occurred in the courtyard of a kindergarten on the outskirts of Haifa, rescue workers said. However, no one was injured.

Lebanon suffered heavy losses

Lebanon has suffered heavy losses from Israeli attacks. The Lebanese Health Ministry said Israeli attacks in the country’s central Mount governorate killed eight people in the village of Barcharmeh, southeast of Beirut, and 15 people in the village of Jon in the Chof district. In the south, Israeli attacks on Tefakhta killed five people, attacks on Nabatiyeh killed two people and one person was killed in the coastal city of Tyre. Another person was killed in an attack in Hermel in the northeast, the ministry said. Beirut residents have largely fled the area since Israel began bombing Beirut’s southern suburbs in September. Video of one attack shared on social media showed two missiles hitting a nearly 10-story building, destroying it and sending debris flying. (Reuters)
