Police negligence exposed
There was gross negligence in the police action in the death case of Mohit Pandey. According to sources, Mohit Pandey was taken to Chinhat police station at 10.56 pm on Friday. After being detained at the police station overnight, he was arrested at 1:05 pm the next day (Saturday).
In fact, on Friday, police detained Mohit Pandey and his brother Shobharam following an altercation between children. While Mohit was being produced in court on Saturday, his health suddenly deteriorated and he was rushed to Lohia Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
CCTV footage surfaces
In this case, a CCTV video from Chinhat Police Station lock-up has also surfaced, in which it can be seen that when Mohit Pandey’s hands and feet started twitching, the young man sitting next to him in the lock-up saw his deteriorating health , stroking his back. At the same time, a young man sitting at the door of the detention center handed over a bottle of water, and another man notified the female officer on guard. After that, news of his death came from the hospital.
Akhilesh takes aim
After the case, the UP police was also under the scanner. Statements by Akhilesh Yadav, chairman of the main opposition Samajwadi Party, regarding the deaths in custody also came to light. He said police stations had become torture chambers and that should be accepted. In police stations, when complaints and questions from the public are raised, officers turn a deaf ear. He said efforts were being made to run the government through police.
