A special POCSO court has sentenced a 32-year-old man to death for the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Gujarat’s Gir Somnath district. Special Judge SI Bhoraniya in Kodinar ordered that Somabhai Solanki, convicted in this case, should be hanged till his death. The court has also directed him to pay a fine of Rs 25 thousand.
The court has considered this case of rape and murder as ‘rarest of the rare’. The accused has committed the crime in a very cruel and merciless manner. Therefore he is left with no option but to give him death sentence. This heinous crime took place in the year 2022 in a village in Kodinar taluka of Gir Somnath district. Government lawyer Ketan Singh Wala said that the police had formed a special investigation team to investigate the case.
Somabhai Solanki was arrested 25 days after this horrific incident. A case was registered against him under various sections of IPC and POCSO Act. He was accused of raping, murdering a minor girl and disposing of her body in a deserted place. A total of 55 documentary evidences were presented before the court in this case and the prosecution had questioned many parties during the trial.
Let us tell you that just a few days ago, the court of Gandhidham in Kutch, Gujarat had sentenced a culprit to 20 years imprisonment in the case of rape of a minor girl. Along with this, a fine of Rs 20 thousand was also imposed. The court had said in its order that if the criminal did not deposit the fine amount, he would have to undergo additional six months simple imprisonment. This incident happened on 30 August 2023.
According to the police, the accused Pushparaj alias Vicky Santhakumar, who worked at Paratha House in front of Adipur Tolani College, went to the complainant’s house. There he gave chocolates to two of her three daughters and took them to the bathroom and made them victims of his lust. In this case, an FIR was registered against the accused at Adipur Police Station on 2 September 2023. After this, the decision has come after hearing in the court.
