New Delhi: Infosys Ltd’s new software development campus opened in New Town, Kolkata on Wednesday. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who inaugurated the facility, said the facility will create 4,000 new jobs, drive innovation and help the state become a center of IT excellence. She added that the state has a huge talent pool that attracts IT companies.

Infosys said in a statement that the development center covers an area of ​​3.200,000 sq. ft. with an investment of over $426 crore and can accommodate over 4,000 employees in a hybrid working mode.

Regarding the state’s efforts to vigorously develop the IT industry, the chief minister said that West Bengal has established the “Silicon Valley of Bengal” with 200 acres of land.

“You’ll be happy to know that there will be $Investment of Rs 27,000 crore. They will create 75,000 IT jobs. 28 companies have started construction, and another 40 companies have acquired land. Data centers are being set up in 11 of them,” the chief minister said.

She said that 22 IT parks have been set up in West Bengal and nearly 85% of the facilities are already operational. Banerjee also said plans are afoot to set up semiconductor manufacturing facilities in the state.

A state official explained that West Bengal has the human capital required for the IT industry. “There are nearly 45,000 engineering entry-level seats across all colleges in the state and 24,000 engineering professionals have graduated this year, many of whom are trained in subjects such as artificial intelligence and machine learning,” the official said on condition of anonymity.

“The inauguration of the Infosys Kolkata Development Center is a landmark investment for West Bengal,” Banerjee said.
