October 21, 2024: The Khushwant Singh Literary Festival has been criticized for inviting Indrani Mukerjea, who is accused of murdering her daughter Sheena Bora, to perform a dance at an event in Kasauli. Mukerjea took the stage on Friday night for a controversial dance performance, sparking criticism on social media for her participation. She was also a panelist at the last festival. She is currently out on bail following a Supreme Court order.

Some members of the public expressed anger at the platform given to Mukerjea by festival organizers. Critics said her appearance at such a high-profile event was part of a “PR makeover” after her release from prison. Joy Bhattacharjya wrote on social media platform

Former media executive Indrani Mukerjea is infamous for her alleged role in the 2012 murder of her daughter Sheena Bora. The case came to light only in 2015, leading to Mukerjea’s arrest along with her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai. The charges against her include murder, conspiracy, kidnapping, giving false information and destroying evidence. She spent several years in jail before being released on Supreme Court bail in May 2022. Mukerjea, who holds British citizenship, has since been allowed to travel abroad.
