The country’s first 24-hour online court has been launched in Kollam, Kerala. The court will begin hearing the cases on Wednesday, November 20. The check case will also be heard in court under the Settlement Act. The biggest feature of the court is that it conducts hearings 24 hours a day. The court will have a magistrate and three employees. Cases can be filed with the court online from anywhere. The case must be filed online by completing the form specified on the court’s website. Lawyers and staff will receive training on court operations at the Quilon Bar Association Hall on Monday.

There will be no ordinary court activities in the court building, and neither the filer nor the lawyer need to appear in person. The entire process of case debate, hearing, and judgment will be conducted online. Letters will be sent to the police department online only. Both the defendant and the person filing the case must submit their application online only.

Also planned to launch in other regions

Bail can be obtained using documents uploaded online. Court fees must be paid electronically. Procedures have been prepared for filers and lawyers to directly participate in court proceedings. This digital court will hear similar cases in four courts in Kuelon District from the 20th of this month. Given the functioning of this digital court, plans are being drawn up to set up such courts in more districts.

The inauguration ceremony was held at the High Court Auditorium

The online court was launched at the High Court Auditorium on August 17 this year. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also attended the ceremony. Launching the scheme, Justice BR Gavai praised Kerala’s initiative. He said the Supreme Court started online hearings within 48 hours of the country’s lockdown amid the coronavirus pandemic. “So this technology will help millions of Indian citizens,” he said.

Technology will help many people

He further said that no one should be denied justice due to lack of access to the Supreme Court. We have all seen that through the use of technology, people from any corner of the country can appear before the Supreme Court. I believe this technology will help many people as well. This will help us realize our dream of social, economic and political justice for all.
