GitHub CEO Thomas Domke praised the technical proficiency of India’s youth force. He wrote on social media platform X that it is undoubtedly time to show special love to Indians. This is the fastest growing group of developers on the planet. He further wrote that as a global technology giant, India is a rapidly developing country. PM Modi also wrote in Thomas Domke’s post: “Indian youth has proven to be the best when it comes to innovation and technology.”
Thomas Domke also shared an infographic in his post. He revealed in the article that India’s contribution to all GitHub projects is US$5.2 billion. This includes 108 million new repositories in 2024.

Indian developers lead the way
Thomas Domke admits that Indian developers are already a step ahead. They use artificial intelligence extensively. India is the country with the second largest number of contributors to AI projects. The next great AI multinational could come from this island.
What is Octoverse’s report?
The Octoverse report predicts that by 2028, India, along with Africa and Latin America, will have the largest group of GitHub developers in the world. The report also says that by 2028, India will have more developers on GitHub than the United States.
The company acknowledged India’s priority on open source software. According to GitHub, contributions to generative AI projects on its platform increased by 95% year-on-year.
