Mithali Mukherjee, an Indian journalist, has been appointed as the director of the Reuters Institute to study the journalism. She will immediately post, the institute said in a statement on Wednesday.
The announcement of Ms. Mukherjee was announced by the Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Institute, Allen Rusborzer and the head of the Department of Political and the head of the International Relations of Oxford University, Professor David Doyle.
“She has been outstanding in her two term as an acting director and has a clear and compelling vision for the next phase. The Reuters Institute was always aimed at a bridge between journalism and academic research in the future. The time under her direction leads to both great threat and extraordinary changes,” said Mr. Rusbriezer.
He said, “The institute will have a unique role in this change and cannot be in better hands.”
Reuters Institute Thomson receives core funding from Reuters Foundation. Rasamas Nielsen served as its director from 2018 to 2024.
Ms. Mukherjee said in a statement that she is “honored” to play a new role and lead the “extraordinary team of colleagues”.
“Our main mission is to find out the future of journalism around the world through debate, engagement, and research, and I am eager to work with the Department of Politics and International Relations, Thomson Reuters Foundation and Industry Partners, who are in the times of unpredictory and change worldwide to build our achievements and missions, we are in the times of unrestrained and change worldwide, and we will be international in our reach and influence.”

Ms. Mukherjee was the acting director of the Reuters Institute since Mr. Nielsen left the post last year. He was chosen in an open and independent process that concluded in March.
With two decades of experience in TV, print and digital journalism, Ms. Mukherjee is serving as a wire and mint consulting business editor. Earlier, he has worked as a market editor in CNBC TV18. He is also a prime time anchor in TV and Doordarshan today.
Ms. Mukherjee has been a companion in the Observer Research Foundation (ORF), where she led the gender initiative for the organization and co-established two start-ups, focused on civil society and financial literacy.
Earlier, he led the journalist programs of the Reuters Institute since September 2022 and represented the institute in conferences and programs around the world. Under his leadership, the institute added new sponsors to the Fellowship Program and got funding for the Oxford Climate Journalism Network – an initiative that supports hundreds of journalists on beats and platforms to improve the quality, understanding and impact of climate coverage worldwide – read the statement of the institute.
She was a shaving fellow for South Asia Journalism Fellowship 2020, Global Governance Young Fellow 2019 and Australia India Youth Dialogue’s 2017 Fellow for 2017. In 2020, Ms. Mukherjee was nominated for the prestigious Red Inc. Awards in India for her two business stories.
