The Indian team played its quarterfinal match against Great Britain on Sunday (4 August), which was quite exciting. After the match was drawn 1-1, the Indian team won the shootout 4-2 and entered the semi-finals.

This match has been in controversies regarding many matters. Firstly, the biggest controversy has been that Amit Rohidas was thrown out in the 17th minute due to red card in the match. After this, the Indian team continued playing with only 10 players for 43 minutes. Giving red card to Amit was a big controversy of the match, which some people on social media are calling dishonesty.

From umpiring to British team in controversies

Now Hockey India has officially filed a complaint in this matter. He has raised 3 specific points in his complaint, which have brought controversy from umpiring to the British team.

Hockey India said in its complaint, ‘Hockey India has officially expressed its concern regarding the quality of umpiring and decisions in the Paris Olympics 2024. The focus of the complaint was on the important match between India and Great Britain in which there was inconsistency in umpiring which could have affected the outcome of the match.

He has raised these 3 points in his complaint…

1. The video umpire took intermittent reviews. Especially regarding an Indian player where a red card was shown which has reduced the confidence in the video review system.
2. During the shoot-out, a goalkeeper was coached from behind the goal post.
3. A goalkeeper used a video tablet during the shoot-out.

Amit got red card in the second quarter

The second quarter of the match was full of controversies. Indian player Amit Rohidas got a red card in the 17th minute of the game. That means the Indian team played with 10 players for the remaining 43 minutes. Amit’s stick hit Will Callan on his face. In such a situation, the German video umpire believed that Amit had done this deliberately. In such a situation, the on-field umpire showed a red card to Amit on the advice of the video umpire. Indian players believed that this did not happen intentionally. It would have been more appropriate if the video umpire had given a yellow card.

The Indian hockey team made a strong comeback despite the red card. Captain Harmanpreet Singh scored a goal in the 22nd minute of the game to put India ahead 1-0 against Great Britain. However, Great Britain soon equalized when Lee Morton scored in the 27th minute. After this, no goals were scored in the remaining two quarters and the match went into a shootout. Sreejesh made many saves in this match.
