Amit got red card in the second quarter
The second quarter of the match was full of controversies. Indian player Amit Rohidas got a red card in the 17th minute of the game. That means the Indian team played with 10 players for the remaining 43 minutes. Amit’s stick hit Will Callan on his face.
In such a situation, the German video umpire believed that Amit had done this deliberately. In such a situation, the on-field umpire showed a red card to Amit on the advice of the video umpire. Indian players believed that this did not happen intentionally. It would have been more appropriate if the video umpire had given a yellow card.
Defeated in shootout after match was drawn
The Indian hockey team made a strong comeback despite the red card. Captain Harmanpreet Singh scored a goal in the 22nd minute of the game to put India ahead 1-0 against Great Britain. However, Great Britain soon equalized when Lee Morton scored in the 27th minute.
After this, no goals were scored in the remaining two quarters and the match went into a shootout. Sreejesh made many saves in this match. In the end, the Indian team won the match 4-2 in the shootout.
