However, in the fourth innings of a Test match, it was the seventh time that Ashwin took five or more wickets in an innings. He is tied with Shane Warne and Muralitharan for second in this regard. Only Rangana Herat (Sri Lanka) is ahead in this regard, having accomplished this feat 12 times in the fourth innings.

This is the fourth time that this has happened, Ravichandran Ashwin has scored a century and also taken five wickets in a Test match. Ashwin is the first player to achieve this feat twice at the same venue. Ashwin scored 106 runs against England in Chennai in 2021, recording figures of 5/43.

This was India’s 179th win in Test cricket. This is the first time in India’s 92-year Test history that it has won more matches than it has lost. India has lost 178 of its 580 matches. There have been 222 draws and one tie. This is India’s largest win against Bangladesh. Earlier in 2017, India won the Hyderabad Test by 208 runs.

Ravichandran Ashwin has now surpassed Courtney Walsh’s record of 519 wickets to reach the eighth position in terms of most wickets taken in Test cricket. Ashwin now has a total of 522 wickets in Test cricket. In addition to this, Ashwin also became the bowler with the highest strike rate among the top eight bowlers. His strike rate of 50.5 is far ahead of Muralitharan, Warne and Kumble. The strike rate refers to the number of balls bowled per wicket. To calculate this, the total number of balls bowled is divided by the total number of wickets.
