India and Sri Lanka signed a major defense cooperation agreement for the first time after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Anura Kumara Dissanaykekake.
The two countries signed some more treaties, including one to develop Trincomli as an energy hub. Another agreement was signed to provide India’s multi-regional grant aid to the eastern region of Sri Lanka. The two leaders inaugurated the Sampur Solar Energy Project almost.
After his visit to Bangkok, the arrival of Shri Modi in the Sri Lankan capital was followed, where he attended the summit of Bimstec (Bay of Bengal initiative for multi-regional technical and economic cooperation).
