All the countries of the world are now gradually shifting their transportation towards e-vehicles (EV) and India is also rapidly moving in this direction. The most important role in this growth is played by Lithium, which is a non-ferrous metal, which is used to make chargeable batteries for electric vehicles including mobile-laptops. Till now India is dependent on other countries for this rare earth element, but the picture is going to change soon. It is not us, but Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari himself has said that India will soon be in a position to export lithium ion batteries.

‘We will soon export lithium ion batteries’
India is now going to become the master of the things for which it is still in need. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, while speaking at the 64th conference of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) on Tuesday, said that soon India will reach a position where we will export Lithium Ion Batteries. He said that the figures of EV growth in the country are encouraging. If this pace continues, then by the year 2030, the EV market will record 1 crore sales and the EV finance market will grow to Rs 5 lakh crore.

5 companies started manufacturing
Last week, in a Bloomberg program, he said that the price of lithium-ion batteries, which used to be $150 per kilowatt hour, has now come down to $107-108 per kilowatt hour. Along with this, the Union Minister had said that five companies in the country have also started manufacturing lithium-ion batteries and in the next few years its price will come down to $90 per kilowatt hour.

Gadkari said- I am not against petrol and diesel
Speaking at the SIAM event, Nitin Gadkari further said that he is not against petrol and diesel, but people need protection from pollution. Earlier last week, he had also said that very soon there will be no need for any other subsidy to adopt electric vehicles in the country. The price of petrol and diesel vehicles and electric vehicles will be the same.

Preparing to compete with China
China dominates the market of lithium ion batteries and out of every 10 lithium batteries used in the world, 4 are used in China. China is also ahead of others in its production. 77 percent of the total production of lithium batteries in the world takes place in China. If we talk about India, then the maximum import of lithium batteries is from China and Hong Kong.

India spent Rs 8,984 crore on the import of lithium ion batteries in the financial year 2020-21. In the next year i.e. 2021-22, India imported lithium ion batteries worth Rs 13,838 crore, but now its manufacturing has started in the country itself. Not only this, a large reserve of lithium has also been found in the country.
