The first match of the two-Test series between India and Bangladesh is being played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bowl first. This decision proved to be a good one for Bangladesh. India lost three wickets within the first hour of the first day (September 19). The three wickets were taken by right-arm fast bowler Hasan Mahmood.

Hitman disappointed, Shubman out

India suffered its first blow in the sixth over of the innings. In the first ball of that over, Mahmood had Rohit Sharma caught by captain Nazmul Hussain Shanto. Rohit bowled a defensive ball around the bat but the ball hit the edge of the bat and went to Santo who was standing at second slip. Rohit, known as the ‘Killer’, scored 6 runs in 19 balls including a 4.

Thereafter, Hasan Mahmood dismissed Shubman Gill on the third ball of the eighth over. Gill wanted to flick the ball to the leg stump. However, the timing of the shot was not right and Liton Das took the ball behind the wicket, forcing Gill to return to the pavilion. Gill faced eight balls and could not even open his account.

Kohli’s bat betrayed him too!

Hasan then dealt a heavy blow to India in the tenth over when he trapped Virat Kohli in the nets. Kohli wanted to hit the ball away from the body and pitched it outside the stumps. In this attempt, Kohli completely missed the ball and it went off the edge of the bat to wicketkeeper Liton.

King Kohli faced 6 balls and scored only 6 runs. Kohli started playing Test cricket after 259 days. Kohli’s last Test match was against South Africa in Cape Town in January 2024. Kohli missed the five-match Test series against England due to family reasons. The score for India’s three wickets was 34 when Kohli was dismissed.
