India vs Bangladesh 1st Test Match Chennai Stadium: Bangladesh Test captain Nazmul Hasan Shanto expressed hope that the pitch at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai (Chepauk) would help the fast bowlers. That is exactly what happened. 24-year-old bowler Hasan Mahmood, playing only the fourth Test match of his career, stunned the Indian team with his spell. He lost 3 wickets in 34 overs for the Indian team.

The first three wickets of the Indian innings (Rohit – 6, Gill – 0, Kohli – 6) belonged to Hasan Mahmood. Rishabh Pant (39) looked in pace but he also fell victim to Hasan Mahmood. Of these, Rohit, Pant and Kohli were dismissed in the same order. Later, Yashasvi Jaiswal (56) joined in the same order and was caught at first slip when the ball touched the outside edge.

Bangladesh captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto sent out Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmood and Nahid Rana as the pace group. All three played on the red clay courts in Chennai which looked different from the pitch at the Chidambaram Stadium which is said to be spin-friendly and batting-friendly.

The pitch saw quick bounces and amazing swings. Anyone who had watched the match before lunch knew that the Chennai pitch behaved completely differently from the traditional format. Perhaps Bangladesh captain Nazmul Hussain Shanto had realised this.

Shanto said immediately after winning the toss: “I want to bowl first. There is moisture on the wicket and we want to take advantage of it. The pitch looks hard and there is moisture in it. The first session will be very favourable for the fast bowlers.”

We are confident of how we will perform in the series (against Pakistan). It is a new series and we will follow our process. Rohit Sharma looked disappointed after the toss and said he also wanted to bowl first. Overall, Shanto’s prediction for this Test match was absolutely correct.

This is the second time this has happened in Chennai.
A strange connection emerged after Chepauk won the toss in Chennai. Here, teams are usually afraid to bowl first to any team. In the 34 matches played here before the ongoing Test match, only once did an England team win the toss and choose to bowl first. This happened in the India-England match in 1982 when the match was tied. This is the second time since then that a captain has won the toss and chosen to bowl first.

Rohit, Pant and Kohli Yashasvi came out in full force.

1: Rohit slips out: Hasan Mahmood appealed for LBW against Indian captain Rohit Sharma on the second ball of the fourth over of the Indian innings in the Chennai Test match and took DRS (Decision Review System), but he was saved due to the umpire’s call. But then Rohit could not extend his innings and after scoring a six off the first ball of the sixth over, he was caught by captain Nazmul Hasan Shanto, who slipped on Hasan Mahmood’s ball. In fact, Rohit could have walked away from the ball if he wanted to as the ball swung spectacularly in the first hour in Chennai.

2: Kohli plays the ball outside off stump: Hasan Mahmood dealt a heavy blow to India again in the 10th over when he trapped Virat Kohli in the nets. Kohli wanted to hit the ball away from the body and pitched it outside the stumps. In this attempt, Kohli completely missed the ball and it went off the edge of the bat to wicketkeeper Liton.

King Kohli faced 6 balls and scored only 6 runs. Kohli started playing Test cricket after 259 days. Kohli’s last Test match was against South Africa in Cape Town in January 2024. Kohli missed the five-match Test series against England due to family reasons. The score for India’s three wickets was 34 when Kohli was dismissed.

3: Rishabh Pant also lost his wicket in the same manner: Hasan Mahmood made Rishabh Pant the fourth victim of the match. Pant, who made his comeback after nearly two years, tried to tease a shot and an edge. Thereafter, the ball hit the edge and went into the gloves of keeper Liton Das. He was disappointed with himself after coming out. Pant was also caught for 27 runs.

4. … Yashasvi Jaiswal was cheated: When it seemed like Yashasvi would do something different in Chepauk, but even his skills couldn’t save him. The ball touched the outside edge and he took an easy catch to Shadman at first slip. Thus, Jaiswal’s difficult innings ended with the score of 56 (118) off the ball of Nahid Rana.

India playing XI for Chennai Test: Rohit Sharma (captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj.

Bangladesh playing 11 in Chennai Test: Shadman Islam, Zakir Hasan, Nazmul Hussain Shanto (captain), Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Liton Das (keeper), Mehdi Hasan Miraj, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmood, Naheed Rana.
