IND vs AUS: Australia loses over Rs 5 crore on first day of Gabba Test, know the reason

IND and OFF: The third Test match between India and Australia begins on December 14 at the Gabba Brisbane. However, both teams came away disappointed on day one. India won the toss and decided to bowl, but opener Usman Khawaja and youngster Nathan McSweeney failed to score much after the start of Australia’s innings. Usman Khawaja and youngster Nathan McSweeney used good defensive skills to counter Jasprit Bumrah’s first spell , but due to rain on the first day of the third Test, only 13.2 overs could be bowled. In this way, Australia scored 28 points against India without losing a single point. Khawaja remained unbeaten after scoring 19 runs off 47 balls and McSweeney remained unbeaten after scoring 4 runs off 33 balls. Due to bad weather, the game could not be played after the first quarter. Australia suffered huge losses as a result.

Fans’ fun is ruined

In fact, only 13.2 rounds can be played on the first day. This meant fans had to go home disappointed. In this case, Cricket Australia suffered a huge loss of A$1 million, which is approximately Indian Rupees 50 million. Cricket Australia (CA) said tickets purchased on Saturday will be fully refunded as fewer than 15 matches will be played on the first day. Spectators left the stadium quickly due to prolonged rain.

CA loses Rs 5 crore

As per CA’s policy, if fewer than 15 overs are bowled in a day’s play, ticket holders will receive a full refund. This means Cricket Australia will not have to refund more than $1 million if 10 more balls are bowled. Cricket Australia said 30,145 fans would receive full refunds as the match was completed in fewer than 15 overs. The country’s cricket governing body has insurance to cover losses caused by bad weather.

Notably, the Meteorological Department has predicted rainfall in the next four days of Gabba Test as well. This could pose a big threat of cancellation for the third Test. Currently, the two teams are tied 1-1 in 5 Test matches. After the first day of the Gabba Test was canceled due to heavy rain, at least 98 overs will now be played every day in the third Test.
