Daughters-in-law hold more political clout than leaders’ sons, daughters and wives in this Jharkhand election. Daughters-in-law of leaders have come forward to take over the political legacy of around six seats in the state. Among them, the names of Sita and Kalpana, the daughters-in-law of Shibu Soren, and Purnima, the daughter-in-law of Raghubar Das, are particularly prominent.
Some of the daughters-in-law of these leaders have already established themselves in politics, while others are entering politics for the first time. Let’s learn more about their stories in this story.
Sponsored’s two daughters-in-law enter politics
Both daughters-in-law of former Jharkhand chief minister Shibu Soren are working in politics. Kalpana, wife of Shibu’s son Hemant, is contesting from Gandeya constituency in Giridih. Kalpana won the seat in the 2024 by-elections. Kalpana entered politics after Hemant was jailed.
Kalpana studied till MBA and got married to Hemant Soren on February 7, 2006. Both have two children. Kalpana Soren worked in the education sector before joining politics.
Shibu Soren’s eldest daughter-in-law Sita also entered politics. Sita entered politics after the death of her husband Durga Soren. She was also a member of Parliament from Jama seat. However, he joined the BJP ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
This time the BJP has fielded Sita Soren from Jamtala. It will not be politically easy for the BJP to occupy the Tara seat. The tribal and Muslim alliances here are very strong.
Governor Raghubar Das welcomes daughter-in-law Purnima
Former Jharkhand chief minister and current Odisha governor Raghubar Das has fielded his daughter-in-law Purnima Das from Jamshedpur East constituency. In 2019, Raghubar Das lost the election from this seat. From then on, he bid farewell to Jharkhand politics.
Purnima got married to Raghubar’s only son Lalit Das in 2019. Lalit was recently in the limelight after an employee of Odisha Raj Bhavan accused him of assault. This issue was also raised at the conference.
Purnima, a native of Chhattisgarh, studied till graduation. On the occasion of Purnima, it is the duty of the people to return the political legacy of Raghubar Das to Jamshedpur.
Nirmal Mahato’s daughter-in-law also joins fight for Ichagarh
Savita Mahato, daughter-in-law of martyr Nirmal Mahato, who played a leading role in the Jharkhand movement, is also in the political arena. Savita is contesting from Ichagarh constituency in Seraikela on the banner of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. Savita also won this seat in 2019.
Savita entered politics in 2014 after the death of her husband Sudhir Mahato. Savita is contesting from the Ichagarh seat against the AJSU candidate. Sabita Mahato has studied up to level nine.

Awadh Bihari’s daughter-in-law Deepika Pandey strikes out again
Deepika Pandey, the daughter-in-law of joint Bihar-Jharkhand leader Awadh Bihari Singh, has once again found herself in a feud. Deepika won the Mahagama seat in 2019 and was later appointed as a minister in Hemant Soren’s government.
Deepika’s husband works in the professional field. Before entering politics, Deepika was active in the field of journalism. Deepika entered politics through the Youth Congress and was appointed as the Godda district president in 2014.
This time Deepika faced her old rival Ashok Bhagat.

Satyanand Bhogta was a minister in Hemant Soren’s government. In 2019, he won from Chatra (reserved) seat and became MLA. In 2022, the central government reserved his caste in the tribal category. The Bogata father and son were therefore disqualified from running for the Chatra seat, but Bogatha did not accept political defeat.
From here he sent his daughter-in-law Rashmi Prakash. Rashmi’s caste falls under the Dalit category and hence Rashmi is eligible to contest elections from Chhatra seat. Rashmi’s husband Mohit works as a peon in the local court.
Rashmi is contesting from Chirag Paswan’s candidate Janardan Paswan for Chhatra seat. Janardhan has campaigned against Satyanand Bhogata.
