Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will preside over the ceremony as the chief guest. The event will be attended by many senior government and defense officials from Russia and India.

INS Tusil is an upgraded version of the Project 1135.6 Krivak III-class frigates. Six of them are in service, including three Talva-class ships, which were built at the Baltisky Shipyard in St. Petersburg. The remaining three Tag-class ships were built in Yantar builds shipyards in Kaliningrad.

Tuhir, the seventh upgraded ship

INS Tushil is the seventh ship in the series and the first of two upgraded follow-on ships, with the contract signed between Rosoboronexport, the Indian Navy and the Indian government nearly six years ago in October 2016 . The construction of the ship was closely monitored by a team of experts from the Indian Warship Surveillance Group based in Kaliningrad, with the support of the Indian Embassy in Moscow.

The warship is the result of the tireless work of hundreds of shipyard workers and multiple Russian and Indian original equipment manufacturers. Following construction and preparations, the vessel underwent extensive testing starting in January this year, including factory sea trials, national committee trials and ultimately delivery acceptance trials by a team of Indian experts.

The ship was named Tusheel, meaning “protective shield”, and its emblem represented “Abhedya Kavacham” (indestructible shield). The ship’s motto is “Nirbhay, Abedhya aur Balsheel”, symbolizing the Indian Navy’s unwavering commitment to protect and ensure security of the country’s maritime borders.

It is a perfect fusion of cutting-edge Russian and Indian technology and best practices in warship construction. The ship’s new design gives it better stealth characteristics and improved stability characteristics.
