IIT Delhi campus opens in Abu Dhabi, Crown Prince welcomes first batch with inauguration

Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed inaugurated the IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi Campus of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi) on Monday, September 2. He also welcomed the first batch of undergraduate (UG) students today. This inaugural batch of 52 students will pursue B.Tech degrees in Computer Science and Engineering and Energy Engineering.

Setting up a campus of IIT in UAE was part of the Vision Document launched by PM Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in February 2022, which is a roadmap for expanding India-UAE relations in new areas of cooperation. It is worth noting that the IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi campus was established on July 15 last year following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the Ministry of Education, IIT Delhi and Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK). India’s Education Minister visited here in 2023 during the construction work of the campus. The first M.Tech group of the institute met Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Abu Dhabi in February this year.

India and the UAE are working to make the IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi campus a world-class and state-of-the-art institution. With a beautiful landscape, the IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi Campus is a symbol of the ever-growing UAE partnership with India, said a press release after the inauguration by Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed. Students for the UG programmes were selected through the prestigious JEE Advanced exam and the newly introduced Joint Admission Entrance Test (CAET) exclusively for international students. The inaugural UG cohort includes Indian, Emirati and several international students. Prior to the UG programmes, IIT Delhi – Abu Dhabi launched its first Master of Technology (M.Tech) in Energy Transition and Sustainability in January 2024.
