The Assam government has taken a major decision to link the Aadhaar card with the National Register of Citizens (NRC). After this decision, people in Assam will have to meet the government’s conditions to get Aadhar cards. Now in Assam, anyone who has not applied for NRC will not get an Aadhar card. Aadhaar for non-applicants will be rejected. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting. This information was provided by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma himself.
The CM said that the Assam Police, Tripura Police and BSF (Border Security Force) arrested a large number of infiltrators in the past two months. That is why infiltration from Bangladesh is a concern for us. We need to strengthen our system and that is why we have decided to tighten the Aadhaar card system.
Sharma said after the cabinet meeting that the general administration department of the state government will now be primarily responsible for the verification process of Aadhaar card applicants. An additional district commissioner will be appointed in each district to take charge of this exercise.

How to get Aadhaar now?
The CM said that after the initial application, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will send it to the state government for verification. The local Circle Officer (CO) will first check whether the applicant or his parents or family members have applied to join the NRC and if no application to join the NRC is made on behalf of the applicant, then the request will be rejected immediately. . Thereafter, the report will be submitted to the Centre.
If an NRC application is found, the CO will verify it. Aadhaar will be approved only after officials are fully convinced.

The chief minister said the new directive will not apply to central employees working in other states. Those who have not yet applied for NRC.
Sarma said that in this way, we will further tighten the issuance process of Aadhaar cards so that no suspicious person can get this ID card.
