Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday made a major statement saying a politician offered him support if he contests for the prime minister’s post but he rejected the offer saying he has no such ambition.

At an event in Nagpur, Gadkari said: “I remember one incident… I will not reveal any name. The person said, ‘If you are going to become the prime minister, we will support you.'” He did not reveal when the conversation took place, however.

Becoming PM is not my goal – Gadkari

Participating in an event organised in honour of the journalist in Nagpur, Nitin Gadkari said, “I was told that if you become prime minister we will support you, I said why should you support me, why should I accept your support? Becoming prime minister is not my life goal. I am loyal to my values and my organisation. I will not compromise for any position. This value is the foundation of Indian democracy.

Nitin Gadkari’s name came up in discussions as a possible candidate for the post of Prime Minister during the Lok Sabha elections in 2024 and 2019. India Today, in its National Mood survey ahead of the February elections this year, ranked Gadkari as the third most suitable leader after Narendra Modi as Prime Minister, after Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The 2019 Prime Minister position has also been nominated

Even when similar discussions were held in 2019, Gadkari rejected them. In 2019, Gadkari had said, “The post of Prime Minister of India is in the capable hands of Narendra Modi. We all support him (PM Modi). I am another worker to realize his vision. Where is the problem with my becoming a “prime minister?” I am not in the race to become the prime minister.
