Taking a lesson after the death of three people due to water filling in the basement of a coaching center in Delhi, the Patna administration has also started taking strict action. The district administration said on Sunday that if any coaching center is found running in the basement of any building in Patna, it will be sealed immediately.

After the death of three students preparing for UPSC at Delhi Rao Coaching Institute, coaching is being inspected in Patna, the capital of Bihar. Regarding this, Patna District Magistrate (DM) Chandrashekhar Singh said that till now no coaching center has been found running from the basement.

The district administration has given clear instructions to the officials that the coaching institutes running in basements should be sealed immediately. This is a direct violation of the existing norms of running a coaching institute. However, the DM said, ‘In the inspection of coaching centres, not a single institute was found in the state capital which was running in the basement.’

Patna district administration has given one month’s time to the coaching institutes to completely follow the rules. They will have to do mandatory registration to run coaching centers in the district. The DM said that after one month, strict action will be taken against centers failing to follow the existing provisions.

One thousand coaching registration applications in 6 days

After this order, the district administration has so far (in the last six days) received applications for registration/renewal from about 1,100 coaching centers in Patna which are under process. The district administration has also decided to start an online system of single window clearance. A portal will be launched within a few days for all mandatory approvals/permissions for coaching institutes in the district. The DM himself has given this information.

He said that the ongoing inspection of coaching institutes by the district authorities has revealed that most of them are overcrowded and running in dense areas. The DM said that he has been clearly asked to ensure allocation of minimum one square meter for each student during the class/batch, there should be adequate infrastructure in proportion to the number of students enrolled.

Order to meet the criteria in a month

The owners of coaching institutes have also been asked by the Patna administration to ensure that every class should have one entry and one exit gate, which is as per the existing provisions. The DM said, we are concerned about the safety of the students, ‘This is not being done to create any kind of panic in the coaching centers of the district, but it is a step taken to prevent any incident.

Patna, the capital of Bihar, is seen as a ‘coaching hub’. Students from all over the state and other places also come here to prepare for engineering, medical and civil services examinations.
