Amidst speculations about joining BJP, former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and JMM leader Champai Soren has reached Delhi. Speaking to the media at the airport, Champai Soren said, “I have come here for my personal work.” On the question of joining BJP, he said that right now I am where I am.

When the media asked questions to Champai Soren, he said, ‘What can we say in the way you people are asking us questions? We have said that we have come for personal work and we are where we are. Did you meet BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari in Kolkata? Answering this question, Champai Soren said, ‘We have not met anyone in Kolkata. I have come to Delhi for personal work. Will tell you people later.

JMM and Congress’s reaction

After leaving the airport, he went straight to Jharkhand Bhawan, where three rooms have been booked in his name. Along with Champai Soren, some people from his staff have also come to Delhi.

On speculations about Champai Soren joining BJP, JMM spokesperson Manoj Pandey said that there are rumors about him, he will not go anywhere. He is a revolutionary personality. Jharkhand Congress President Kailash Mahato said that Champai Soren has been an honest person. When the time of crisis came, the party gave him responsibility. He has been loyal to Guruji (Shibu Soren).

Union Minister praised Champai Soren

On the question of Champai Soren joining BJP, Union Minister of State for Defense and Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth said that I do not know how much truth is there in this news but he is a good politician. Sanjay Seth said, ‘It was not right at all for him to step down from the throne like this. He was performing his post and duties very well. Whatever work he did for two-four months, he never did it with any hatred. He is an honest and mass leader.

Champai stayed in Kolkata

According to sources, Champai Soren was staying in a hotel in Kolkata last night where he also met BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari. He left for Delhi by this morning’s flight. He took off in the morning flight with his personal staff. There is speculation that during his Delhi visit, he may also meet top leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Champai Soren had resigned in July

Let us tell you that in Jharkhand, Champai Soren had resigned from the post of Chief Minister in July last month. After this, former CM Hemant Soren had staked claim to form the government and Hemant Soren once again became the CM of Jharkhand. Champai Soren was the Chief Minister of Jharkhand from 2 February 2024 to 3 July 2024 and served as the seventh CM of the state. Champai Soren is counted among the senior leaders of JMM.

Champai Soren is a seven-time MLA. Since 2005, he has been continuously representing Seraikela assembly constituency. In 1991, he became MLA for the first time from Seraikela seat. Hemant Soren also made Champai Soren a cabinet minister in 2019. He was given the responsibility of transport, scheduled tribe and scheduled caste and backward class welfare.

What is the party position of the state?

Let us tell you that the tenure of Jharkhand Assembly is ending on 5 January 2025 and before that, assembly elections are to be held there also. Currently, there is a coalition government of Congress and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) in the state, headed by Hemant Soren.

There are a total of 82 assembly seats in the state. According to the website of Jharkhand Assembly, JMM has 26 MLAs, Congress has 22 MLAs. Apart from this, 22 MLAs of BJP, 3 of AJSU, CPIM-L 1, NCP 1, RJD 1 and two MLAs are independent. The number of nominated MLAs is 1 and the number of vacant posts is 7.
