I have always followed parliamentary procedure…JPC chief Jagdambika Pal on allegations against him

Jagdambikar Pal

At the JPC meeting, a dispute arose among members over the Waqf Amendment Bill. Jagdambikar Pal, chairman of the joint parliamentary committee, issued a statement to the media on the matter. Opposition lawmakers said his comments broke the rules.

On Wednesday, the commission’s chairman clarified the allegations against him. He denied the accusation and said I only mentioned the violence and did not break the rules.

The opposition claims

Opposition MPs Sanjay Singh and A. Raja accused Pal of violating rules by making a public statement on the incident in which Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee broke a glass bottle and threw it away during a committee meeting.

Opposition lawmakers did not comment on the incident but said that under rules no public statement should be made about the closed-door meeting.

“I have not revealed anything about the committee’s proceedings or deliberations,” Pal said while clarifying the opposition’s accusations in the media. I was simply making a statement regarding the commissioner’s violent behavior during the committee meeting and subsequent suspension. I have always abided by the rules of procedure of the Parliament and maintained the dignity of the Parliament.

TMC MP breaks bottle

In a dramatic incident on Tuesday, Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee broke a glass water bottle and threw it at the committee chairman Jagdambika Pal during a meeting of the Parliament’s Religious Endowments Committee. He was subsequently suspended from committee meetings for one day.

During a heated argument with BJP MP Abhijit Gangopadhyay, Banerjee got angry, broke the bottle and threw it out. During this time, his finger was injured and Pal condemned Banerjee’s behavior and said God should give her wisdom.
