After the violence broke out in Manipur, many questions were raised about the government. After the violence, state Chief Minister Biren Singh came forward for the first time. He said he was the chief minister of all communities in the state except illegal immigrants and drug smugglers. Violence has erupted in Manipur in recent times, and allies of the National Democratic Alliance have withdrawn their support for the Bilen government. Hence, there were doubts that he might resign as chief minister, but Biren Singh denied all such speculations.
Ten suspects were killed in a clash with CRPF Jawans in Manipur’s Giribam district. Subsequently, the police were busy looking for women and children in the My Dinh community. After the bodies were discovered, violence broke out in the state. The first incident of caste conflict in Manipur came to light on May 3, 2023. Since then, a total of 240 people have died in the two communities of Kuki-Meitei.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh has been opposing his resignation since the violence. At one point he offered to resign, but a female supporter tore up his resignation letter. Pressure on Biren Singh to resign has increased again after allies withdrew support. After the violence, the chief minister said, I am the elected chief minister of Manipur and represent all the people of the state. Of which I am the leader. I’m here to protect them, but I’m not the chief minister of illegal immigrants. Asked if he had lost the trust of the Kuki community, he said, I am not the chief minister of those who bring drugs into India.
N Biren Singh also rejected the demand to impose President’s rule in the state. He said that the current government in Manipur has the mandate of the people. The government is working to restore peace. But the opposition is in cahoots with drug cartels and illegal immigrants. The opposition, believing it had a chance to regain power, demanded that the president rule. The state government will work with the central government to identify these miscreants and terrorists. will bring the state back to normalcy again.
He further said that as the violence escalated in recent weeks, the Center has deployed 70 additional companies of paramilitary personnel (about 9,000 soldiers) to the state. Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired two special meetings on the violence in Manipur and stressed on normalizing the situation.
The chief minister denies the speculations
The NPP had withdrawn its support from the government on Sunday. Since then, market speculation has been extremely hot. Reacting to all these speculations, the Chief Minister said that our government is stable and we have the required strength but now is not the time to talk about numbers. In the phase we are going through, some people may lose their lives, but we will come out stronger. This is not the time for politics, I am calling this meeting to find ways to save my people and to hear feedback from MLAs. He further said that the Center is monitoring Manipur round the clock and has started talks with all MLAs to achieve peace.

The chief assured that we will continue to take all necessary measures to ensure safety. We should all unite and strongly condemn this barbaric violence. The killing of innocent women and children is a crime against humanity. This behavior is never justified. Together we will overcome this principle and move towards a peaceful future.
Chief Minister Biren Singh said that the violence happened because the drug mafia, illegal immigrants are a severely affected group in our government and they want the violence to continue so that their work can continue because before the violence, They face harsh consequences for their illegal activities. The impact on government is manifold. We were the first to get people’s biometric information. We are also targeted because we shut down the main routes of the drug mafia.
