The dispute with the UP Public Service Commission shows no sign of ending. After postponing the preliminary hearing of UP PCS 2024 for the second time, the committee is now ready to conduct the preliminary hearing on December 7 and 8. Since the exam lasts for two days, it is possible that a normalized formula will be used. Candidates continue to express opposition to this.
In this series of incidents, hundreds of candidates demonstrated at the UP Public Service Commission office in Prayagraj today and expressed their protest for several hours by raising placards. The road from Prayagraj to Lucknow was closed for several hours due to protests by candidates. There was chaos outside the committee’s offices for almost the entire day.
This will be the first time that the PCS preliminary review will be conducted within two days and conducted in a standardized manner. Candidates said that there is no fixed formula for normalization and it is generally arbitrary. In this case, candidates with higher scores can be eliminated, while candidates with fewer correct answers can be qualified to participate in the main examination. Many candidates may suffer losses as a result. Nearly 600,000 candidates have signed up for this preliminary examination.
Candidates who oppose the decision to normalize the two-day preliminary examination said that since the examination is held over two days, some candidates may get easy papers and some candidates may get difficult papers. Many qualified candidates may be eliminated in the preliminary examination. According to protester Amit Duwidi Azad, the committee also mentioned in its advertisement that the preliminary review would be conducted within a day. In addition to this, some candidates may go to court if the exam is held over two days. The High Court can suspend recruitment until the hearing is over. Many candidates may have to live with the consequences.
Candidates said that to avoid all controversies, the preliminary examination is traditionally held within one day. Competitive student Pankaj Kumar said when the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections can be conducted on a single day without any irregularities, why can’t the examination of five lakh candidates be conducted on a single day. The board cannot act arbitrarily in the name of the examination centre. However, despite hours of protest, the responsible officials of the committee have not come forward to meet the candidates or accept their memos. Angry candidates say they will further escalate the incitement.
