The Kolkata rape and murder case is not coming to an end in West Bengal. There is tremendous discontent not only among the common people but also in the ruling party Trinamool Congress in the state about the way West Bengal has covered up this case. But the Chief Minister of the state, Mamata Banerjee, is also a seasoned player in politics. She knows the art of turning a losing game around. Getting ready to talk to the agitating doctors and then waiting for 2 hours in the meeting hall and finally talking about resigning is a part of her strategy. Mamata Banerjee apologized to the people of West Bengal in a press conference and said that she also wants the victim to get justice. This is the reason why she is ready to resign for the sake of the people. Earlier, a video of the conference hall was leaked in which Mamata Banerjee was seen waiting for the delegation of junior doctors amidst empty chairs.

1- Attempt to make doctors villains

After the Kolkata incident, the Chief Minister of West Bengal has started playing the game of getting public sympathy on the pretext of talking to the doctors who are on strike. The meeting between Mamata government and doctors could not be held even on Thursday. Mamata has created such an atmosphere that she waited for the doctors for two hours but they did not come. For this, the live visual of empty chairs in the meeting hall and Mamata waiting has also been made viral. In the court of the public, the doctors should be considered stubborn, so the government said that the doctors were adamant about live streaming and refused to go to the conference hall. After this, the meeting was cancelled late in the evening. Mamata Banerjee also argued that since the matter is in court, how can live streaming be allowed.

To prove the striking doctors as villains in the court of the people, some more arguments were given by the government. Like the government had called the doctors for talks for the third time. The government had also accepted the doctors’ demand for the presence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the meeting. Earlier it was decided to allow only 15 doctors to attend the meeting, but on Thursday, instead of 15, 32 members were allowed. But the doctors were adamant about live streaming and did not go inside the conference hall.

2- Mamta’s last weapon is the victim card

Those who have carefully observed Mamata Banerjee’s politics know that she plays the victim card like a Brahmastra. Whenever she feels that all the weapons are not working, she resorts to playing the victim card and defeats her opponents. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Mamata Banerjee used the victim card against the BJP on a large scale. She accused the Narendra Modi government of targeting West Bengal and misusing agencies against the Mamata government.

During the raid by the CBI at the house of the Kolkata Police Commissioner, Mamata Banerjee presented herself as a victim and sat on a dharna. She called it an attack on the Constitution and the federal structure and said that the central government is misusing the agencies to defame the state government.

Now they have started using this weapon again. In the press conference, the Chief Minister folded his hands and apologized to the people of Bengal for the deadlock and requested the doctors to return to work. He said that we waited for 2 hours for a meeting with the doctors. We saw that there was no response from their side. We had asked them to come with an open mind for the talks. A solution can be found only if there is a dialogue. Earlier on another occasion, I had waited to join the talks. Never mind, I forgive them because they are very young. We had a complete system to record the meeting. For transparency and accurate documentation of the process and we were also ready to share the recording with the permission of the Supreme Court.

I know that most of the doctors were interested in this meeting, but we have come to know that a handful of people want to create a deadlock. Still we do not want to implement ESMA. Mamata Banerjee said that I am even ready to leave the chair for justice for the common people, but they do not want justice, they just want the chair. I do not want the CM’s chair, but I want justice for the victim.

3- Why did Mamata have to use Brahmastra?

The situation in West Bengal has gone out of control. Neither the agitation is stopping nor the discontent in the party. The agitation is getting more intense every night in Kolkata. The fire of protest is not taking its name to stop. Even before the allegation of whitewashing the Kolkata rape case, many allegations were made against the Mamata government but she solved those problems in a magical way. Her minister had to go to jail in the teacher recruitment scam. Her nephew himself is accused of irregularities in the coal mine. Party workers have been accused of taking advantage of government schemes, intimidating people and getting them on their side. But she has been handling these cases very easily.

But in the Kolkata rape case, she is not able to understand what to do. Discontent is also growing in the party cadre. So far, at least 4 big TMC leaders have openly opposed her. The number of small leaders is in several dozen. The Supreme Court is constantly commenting against her. Amidst all this, she has managed to save her favorite police commissioner by offering his resignation.
