How much truth is there in Yogi’s employment claims? Understand from the figures how many jobs the UP government has given!

According to the figures presented by the Ministry of Labor and Employment of the Government of India in response to a question in the Rajya Sabha on 31 December 2023 last year, the unemployment rate across the country is 5.8. At the same time, the unemployment rate of Uttar Pradesh is 4.5 i.e. less than the national figures. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also mentioned the reduction in the unemployment rate of Uttar Pradesh several times and he has also repeatedly said in the House that the unemployment situation in UP is under control.

On one hand, in police recruitment, 1 candidate is selected for every 80 candidates, so is this standard applicable to all the jobs in Uttar Pradesh? This is not the case, in the 69000 teacher recruitment that came out in 2019, 4 lakh 10 thousand youth had filled the form, out of which 1 lakh 47 thousand candidates passed and 69 thousand got jobs. That is, in this, one candidate was selected for about 6 candidates. The reason for this was also clear. In its standard, only those who had passed the TET exam could appear in the exam. In 2018, about 14 lakh candidates had applied for 1918 posts of Gramya Vikas Adhikari, that is, 1 candidate was selected for every 728 candidates.

It is believed that if an exam is at the 10th level, then the maximum number of candidates appear for it. On the other hand, if an exam is at the 12th or graduation level, then the number of candidates gradually decreases. If a technical degree is required, then this number decreases even more. But looking at the increasing number of unemployed every year and the increasing number of youth crossing the age of 18, government jobs are proving to be a drop in the ocean in comparison to unemployment.

The Yogi government claims that their government has provided more jobs in the MSME and private sector by making people skilled through skill development. This is why the Yogi government is claiming that although six and a half lakh government jobs have been provided in 7 years, more than 2 crore jobs have been provided to the youth in the private and MSME sectors on the initiative of the government.

First look at the data of government appointments made in 7 years of Yogi Raj

Yogi government claims that during its 7 years of tenure, 6.5 lakh government jobs, 375000 contractual jobs in government, more than 2 crore jobs in private and MSME sector have been created. If we look at the figures of previous governments, 2 lakh 5 thousand government jobs were created in 5 years of Akhilesh Yadav’s rule in which 43000 were police recruitment, while during Mayawati’s 5 year tenure from 2007 to 2012, 35 thousand police recruitments were done while 91 thousand total government jobs were created. Yogi government is making such a claim through figures.

The maximum number of 69 thousand teachers were appointed in 2019. However, despite many controversies, this matter is still a thorn in the neck of the government, despite this, the Yogi government has recruited 69000 teachers in 2020. Apart from this, 68500 teachers were appointed in basic education in 2018. Before that, 10768 lecturers were appointed by the Yogi government. 15198 TGT and PGT teachers were recruited in 2021. Then in 2022, 4163 TGT and PGT teachers were recruited.

Yogi government claims that from the year 2017 till now, 4964 development officers, 921 junior assistants, 845 assistant accounts have been appointed in 3133 villages.
3210 Water Tank Operators, 2056 Agriculture Assistant Technicians, 559 Sports and Gym Trainers, 414 Pharmacists Homeopathy, 8831 Health Workers, 1381 Junior Assistants, 7897 Lekhpals, 871 Assistant Statistics Officers, 486 Boring Technicians were recruited during the Yogi government.

Most government jobs are on contract basis

In terms of figures, Yogi government claims to have the highest number of government jobs, government jobs on contract basis and private jobs on the basis of talent and skill, but Yogi government also faced the most criticism regarding government jobs. The reason is that all the recruitments were delayed, the recruitments released in the last two years of Akhilesh were cancelled. These recruitments were delayed for many years in the Yogi government, due to which there was both disappointment and anger among the youth. Question papers of many examinations were leaked, after which the Yogi government had to come on the back foot and its political loss was clearly seen in the 2024 elections.

Different status of government job
Retired IAS Arvind Singh says that there is unemployment in the country but getting a government job provides an insurance. The family also wants to get a government job. There is a lot of attraction among the youth towards the police and the Central Paramilitary Forces. There are many such rural areas. Despite being educated, everyone is joining it, trying to get a job. There is a glamour of the uniform. There are many who want to do everything as per their wish. Today, graduates, post graduates, even engineering graduates are applying for the recruitment of constables and sub-inspectors even though they have already been selected and passed somewhere.

Government job means job security
Ex DGP Uttar Pradesh AK Jain says that when someone’s son is in a government job or a constable or inspector, then along with job security, pension security and status, prestige also increases in the village and the prestige of the family increases. In the last 7 years, more than 1,32,000 recruitments have been done in the police. The most important recruitment has been done at the sub-inspector level. There was a huge shortage of sub-inspectors in the police, which has been fulfilled. Recruitment is also happening here, so when they come out after training, the appearance of the police force will change. Earlier, people of Gujarat did not want to go into government jobs, but now when camps are held there, whether it is a paramilitary force camp or an Agni Veer camp, a large number of people want to join government jobs there too.

What is the job trend in the world?
Arvind Singh says that people have had faith in government jobs since a long time. Professional studies, polytechnics, ITI developed here but it happened late. If we compare with southern or western countries, there people go for professional studies. In our country, people do simple BA MA and ask for jobs but they don’t get jobs. The government doesn’t have many jobs, they are limited, but there are many jobs in the private sector. But they are not able to fulfill the qualification required for that. There is a security in government jobs. If there is death in a government job, the family gets a job and there is confidence that we are a part of the government. Which is visible to them in the society.

There is more craze for private jobs in the South
There is more craze for government jobs in Hindi speaking areas as compared to South India. In South India, we have been seeing for a long time that children who used to do technical education courses went to USA and settled down. But it is not the case here in UP. Here the youth are still looking for constable, sub-inspector or government jobs. Here people still trust the government and government jobs more. If someone is in a government job, people say that he is settled.

Retired officials say that Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune have become job hubs today. If Lucknow becomes an IT hub today, then jobs will also get a boost here in a similar way. There is not much craze for IAS and IPS exams in Hyderabad and Bangalore. There, more attention is given to private companies rather than government companies because people ask in which company you work. The same situation will happen in UP or other Hindi speaking states, more and more industries should be brought in, for which the state government is making efforts. But it will take time to implement it, it will take time to see the results. Jobs are being created but the population is also increasing.

Employment is a political issue
Arvind Singh, retired IAS says that the whole issue of jobs is in the headlines because now all the parties are making government jobs an issue in the elections. Even reservation in contractual jobs and outsourcing jobs has become a big issue and all the political parties feel that the best issue to attract the youth is only government jobs. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath put the figures of government jobs and reservation on the floor of the House. Apart from this, in the backward class conference of BJP after the elections, he also told the backwards that the Indian teachers’ union about which there is so much uproar, 60 percent of them are OBCs and Dalits. The Yogi government is claiming that it has given the highest number of government jobs historically in these 7 years. Reservation has been followed to the letter, despite this, the Yogi government is the one that is most surrounded on the jobs issue.
