Ordering pizza to their hostel room almost led to the suspension of four girls at a government hostel in Pune’s Pimpri Chinchwad.
The hostel, run by Maharashtra’s social justice and special assistance department, issued a suspension notice on January 6 to four residents after a pizza box was found in their room. Hostel authorities gave them two days to respond and identify who had ordered the pizza, warning that all four could face one-month suspension.
One of the girls, a first-year BSc student at a city college, told TOI, “I shifted to the hostel a month ago. Although I did not order the pizza, the hostel in-charge called my mother and asked her to travel from Dharashiv. When she arrived, I decided to leave on February 8 and move in with my relatives, as I am being unfairly targeted.”
However, hostel in-charge Meenakshi Narhare told TOI the notice was intended only as a warning to students violating the rules. She pointed out that the other three students were still in the hostel, despite the two-day deadline for responding to the notice having passed. “We do not allow students to bring food from outside to prevent poisoning or similar incidents,” she added.
