Himachal Pradesh is hit by severe cold, four districts including Mandi issue warning

Severe cold continues to wreak havoc in the low hilly areas of Himachal Pradesh. The local meteorological department has issued an orange alert for Bilaspur, Una, Hamirpur and Mandi districts for four days starting from Monday. During this period, temperatures in these areas are likely to drop further.

According to the weather department, light rain and snowfall are likely in the central and higher hilly areas of the state till Thursday. Meanwhile, minimum temperatures are likely to remain below normal. But due to the dry weather, daytime temperatures dropped by two to three degrees.

The state’s temperature conditions

The cold was felt in many parts of the state. Thabo is the coldest place in the state with a minimum temperature of -11.6 degrees. Apart from this, the temperature also dropped in Sumdo (minus 5.3 degrees), Kusumseri (minus 4.8 degrees) and Kalpa (minus 1.8 degrees). While in the lower parts of the state, Una recorded a minimum temperature of 1.0 degrees Celsius while Bhuntar recorded a minimum temperature of 1.5 degrees Celsius. Una is the hottest place in the state in terms of maximum temperature with a maximum temperature of 23.8 degrees Celsius. However, the temperature is still lower than Saturday (24.5 degrees).

The Meteorological Center issued a yellow warning for heavy fog in parts of Mandi, Bakla Dam reservoir area and Balkh Valley from December 24 to 26. At the same time, from December 27, an active western disturbance may occur due to the influence of the Western Himalayas and surrounding plains, which may cause light rain and snowfall. Light rain and snowfall are expected in some areas from December 23rd to 24th, and light rain and snowfall are expected in some areas from December 27th to 28th.

This weather condition has become a matter of concern for farmers in the state. Dry weather and frost conditions may be detrimental to rabi crops, especially those sown in November and December. Farmers are concerned about these weather conditions as it may adversely affect their crops. (language)
