Heavy rain wreaked havoc in Una on Sunday. Ten continuous hours of heavy rain resulted in the death of 12 people in Una district. Out of 12 people, 9 belong to the same family. Three people were crushed to death when sheds and walls of factories collapsed due to rain in the industrial area.
Many industrial units were destroyed due to heavy rains in Tahliwal industrial area of Una. There was water everywhere inside the factories. At some places the roof was destroyed and many walls collapsed. Many vehicles were destroyed due to rain. Many people were washed away in the strong current of rain water. Of these, three people died and one is missing.
9 people of the same family from Dehlan village of Una died. Actually, 11 people from here had gone to Hoshiarpur, Punjab to attend a wedding. But his Innova car got stuck in the strong current of a ravine in Jejo on the Himachal-Punjab border. After this everyone got swept away in the strong current.
After receiving information that 11 people were swept away in the water, the Punjab administration started rescue efforts. Still could not save the people. After the strong current stopped, during the rescue operation, bodies of 9 out of 11 people were recovered, while one is still missing. One person was saved with the help of local people.
The pit adjacent to Tahliwal Industrial Area is filled with water. A petrol pump also became a victim of the surging rain water. The strong current of water swept away everything. Factories and houses were destroyed. Three migrant laborers died due to this. Loss of crores is estimated due to rain.
