Hema Malini, Esha Deol vote in Maharashtra, urge citizens to vote

Hema Malini addressed the media and urged people to go out and vote, saying: “I am here to vote. I request all citizens to come out and vote. It is your responsibility to vote for the future of the country.” Her daughter Esha Deol added Dow: “I’m obviously here today to vote and I think it’s important for everyone to come out and vote. Everybody’s polling station is very close to their home so you just have to take a moment rather than sit down later and try to cry.”

Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan was also present at the same polling station to cast his vote along with Hema Malini and Esha Deol.

The Maharashtra Assembly elections are held in phases, with voting starting at 7 am and ending at 6 pm. A total of 288 parliamentary constituencies are contested in the election. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier called on citizens, especially youth and women, to participate in the elections, calling it the “festival of democracy”.

The main contest in these elections is between the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Mahayutthi alliance (comprised of the BJP, Shiv Sena and the Ajit Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)) versus the Congress-led M.A. Competition between the Ha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance. The group consists of the Sharad Pawar faction of the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP.

In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, the BJP won 105 seats, the Shiv Sena won 56 seats and the Congress won 44 seats. In 2014, the BJP won 122 seats, the Shiv Sena 63 seats and the Congress 42 seats.
