The hearing of Vinesh Phogat case in Paris Olympics has been completed. The decision may come today (9th August) or tomorrow (10th August). CAS had earlier said that the decision on Vinesh’s appeal would be pronounced before the end of the Paris Olympics. The Paris Olympics is to conclude on 11 August. But now the decision on the entire matter can come on 9th or 10th August.

These four arguments were given by Vinesh during the hearing.

1. Vinesh argued that she did not commit any fraud.

2. His weight gain was due to the body’s natural recovery process.

3. It was argued on behalf of Vinesh that taking care of one’s body is the fundamental right of an athlete.

4. It was also argued on behalf of Vinesh that her body weight was less than the prescribed limit on the first day of the competition. The weight increased only due to recovery and is not a case of cheating. It is their fundamental right to provide their body with the necessary nutrients to be healthy.

Decision coming soon
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has taken positive action in connection with the application filed in the ad-hoc division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s failure to weigh in on the second day of the women’s wrestling 50 kg competition at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. All parties were given an opportunity to file their detailed legal arguments before the hearing and then make oral arguments. The Sole Arbitrator indicated that the operational part of the order is expected soon, after which the detailed order and reasons will be put forward. IOA President Dr PT Usha thanked senior advocates Harish Salve and Vidushpat Singhania as well as the sports legal team for helping in presenting the arguments on behalf of the IOA.

Dr Usha said, “IOA has a duty to support Vinesh and extends its strong support to her regardless of the outcome of this case. We are proud of her countless achievements during her illustrious career in wrestling.”
