A shocking incident has come to light in Bareilly, UP, where a man posing as a policeman committed fraud with several female police officers. The accused Rajan Verma not only cheated several female police officers, but also got married to some of them in a fake marriage.
Rajan Verma befriended female constables through Facebook and then exploited them by deceiving them. During this, he also cheated them of lakhs of rupees. The matter came to light when a female police officer suspected Rajan and lodged a complaint with the Bareilly police.
After which the police started investigation and arrested the accused Rajan Verma from near the bus stand yesterday. Bareilly SP (City) Rahul Bhati has disclosed this matter in a press conference. According to Bareilly Police, accused Rajan Verma, a resident of Lakhimpur district, was absconding for a long time. He used to trap female police personnel by introducing himself as a policeman. It is alleged that till now he has made more than half a dozen female police personnel his victims by deceit. At present, investigation is going on. He has been arrested and is being interrogated.
He used to target women soldiers with surname ‘Varma’
The arrested accused Rajan told in his statement that he used to target only those female police officers whose surname was ‘Verma’ so that the other person would not have any doubt. The accused also trapped a female constable of Lakhimpur Kheri in his trap and married her, but soon his truth came out.

Rajan Verma carried out his fraud in different districts of Uttar Pradesh. He started contacting those female police officers through the police website whose names had ‘Verma’ in front of them. He first made two female constables his victims and raped them on the pretext of marriage.
He also used to extort money from female constables by trapping them in a love trap
Actually, the accused Rajan Verma came in contact with a female constable posted in Bareilly and told her that he was posted with ADG Lucknow. He deceived the female constable by telling her that he was unmarried and then had physical relations with her. He kept on luring the victim with the promise of marriage for a long time.
Apart from this, the accused trapped another female police officer in his love trap and also took a loan in her name. It is alleged that he took a personal loan of Rs 6.5 lakh to buy a plot in Lucknow using the female constable’s Aadhaar card and PAN card. Along with this, he also kept extorting money from the woman from time to time. He also showed dreams of promotion to many female constables.
What did the police say?
In this case, SP City Rahul Bhati said that a case was registered in Kotwali police station on 13 July 2024 under IPC section 376 and fraud. The accused had cheated the female police officer by luring her with marriage. He was absconding for a long time, he has been arrested.
According to SP City- He (Rajan Verma) used to extract the complete data of the women police personnel he targeted from the official website of the police. So far, he has confessed to 8-10 incidents in his statement because four to five cases are already registered in this. Two cases have been registered in Moradabad, one in Lakhimpur Kheri and one in Bareilly. Apart from this, more incidents are being investigated.
