Kapil Parmar, a resident of Sehore in Madhya Pradesh, created history by winning a bronze medal in Judo at the Paris Paralympics. Kapil Parmar won a bronze medal on Thursday (J1) in the 60 kg men’s Para Judo event by defeating Elitton de Oliveira of Brazil and gave India its first Paralympic medal in Judo.

Kapil Parmar is the first Indian athlete to win a bronze medal in Judo in the Para Olympics. Kapil is a resident of Murdi located at Bhopal Naka in Sehore. His father Ram Singh Parmar is a taxi driver. He is the youngest of four brothers and one sister. In his childhood, he was playing in the fields of his village and accidentally touched a water pump, due to which he got a severe electric shock. Unconscious Kapil was taken to the hospital and he remained in coma for six months.

Kapil Parmar got bronze medal in Judo

After some time, his eyesight kept getting weaker. Now his eyesight is so weak that even with the highest power glasses, he can hardly see. Despite this, Kapil did not give up and started playing Judo. He took training in Lucknow and learned the nuances of Judo from coach Munawar Anjar Ali Siddiqui.

Kapil Parmar also won a gold medal in the 2019 Commonwealth Championship. Kapil won a silver medal in the 2022 Asian Para Games. He won a bronze medal in the 2023 World Games and Grand Prix. Now in the first Paralympics of his career, he has once again won a historic medal for the country.

Let us tell you that Kapil Parmar defeated Venezuela’s Marco Denis Blanco 10-0 in the quarter-finals. However, in the semi-finals, he was defeated 0-10 by Iran’s S. Banitaba Khorram Abadi. Parmar got one yellow card in both these matches. With the defeat in the semi-finals, Parmar’s dream of winning gold was shattered, but he has now created a new history by winning the bronze medal.
