In the Haryana assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will not formally announce an alliance with Gopal Kanda’s Haryana Lokhit Party but may leave one seat for Gopal Kanda as per mutual consent informally. BJP has so far announced the names of its candidates for 87 out of 90 assembly seats in Haryana.

The BJP has not announced the names of its candidates for the three seats. These include Faridabad NIT, Mahendragarh and Sirsa assembly seats. Currently, Gopal Kanda is the MLA from Sirsa seat.

Gopal Kanda has been a supporter of the BJP-JJP alliance

In the 2019 assembly elections, BJP won 40 seats and Dushyant’s JJP won 10 seats. BJP formed an alliance with JJP to form a stable government and made Dushyant Chautala the Deputy Chief Minister. Gopal Kanda supported the coalition government of BJP and JJP for the entire five years without any conditions.

Gopal Kanda wanted BJP to leave two seats Sirsa and Rania for him in this assembly election but Gopal Kanda declared Dhawal Kanda as the candidate for Rania seat. After this, BJP fielded Sheeshpal Kamboj from this seat. The biggest problem in front of BJP is that on one hand Ranjit Chautala has also announced to contest as an independent from Rania seat and on the other hand Dhawal Kanda is already in the fray from Gopal Kanda’s party, which can benefit Congress.

What will happen if there is a mutual agreement?

Sources believe that BJP has sent a message to Gopal Kanda that the party will not field a candidate against him from Sirsa seat but he will have to withdraw the nomination of Haryana Lokhit Party candidate Dhawal Kanda from Rania assembly seat. 12 September is the last date for filing nominations in Haryana assembly elections.

Due to the farmers’ agitation, INLD president Abhay Chautala resigned from the post of MLA from Ellenabad assembly seat. In the by-election on Ellenabad seat, BJP gave ticket to Gopal Kanda’s brother Gobind Kanda against Abhay Chautala, who had also gone to jail in the airhostess Geetika suicide case. In this case, the court acquitted him after 11 years.
