Story of Hariyali Amavasya (Hariyali Amavasya Katha)
Long time ago, there was a king who had a son and a daughter-in-law. One day the daughter-in-law secretly ate the sweets and blamed the rat. The rat became very angry at this accusation and decided to take revenge. One day, when some guests had come to the king’s house and were sleeping in the king’s room, the mouse secretly kept the queen’s saree there. When the guests woke up in the morning and saw the queen’s saree, everyone was surprised. When the king came to know about this, he threw his daughter-in-law out of the palace.
Now every evening the queen would light a lamp and work on growing sorghum and after the puja, she would distribute the Prasad of Gudhani. One day, the king passed through the same path and saw the light of those lamps. After returning to the palace, the king ordered the soldiers to go into the forest and investigate there. When the soldiers reached under that peepal tree, they saw that the lamps were talking among themselves, sharing their stories. With a quiet lamp everyone asked his story. That lamp told that it was the queen’s lamp and he narrated the whole incident in detail. He told that the queen had accused the rat of stealing sweets, after that the rat took revenge from the queen and kept her saree in the king’s room but this time the queen was innocent but still she was thrown out of the palace. Even though she was gone, she is still facing the punishment. The soldiers told the whole story to the king. The king called the queen back to the palace, where the queen started living happily again.
