RAJKOT: The Anjar police in Kutch district arrested a 43-year-old man on Sunday, allegedly for the murder of his friend and neighbour, to steal his high-end smartphone.
Police found Rahul Gaud‘s (32) body near a canal behind Arihant Nagar in Anjar on Feb 7.
Subsequently, the police apprehended Gaud’s friend and neighbour, Indrajitsinh Gurjar (43), for his involvement in the murder. During questioning, Gurjar revealed that one Dheeraj Kumar from Jalaun, Uttar Pradesh, was also involved in the murder.

Gaud was employed at the firm’s DI pipe plant and his wife works in the advanced textiles section at a company. They are parents to two daughters.
According to the complaint, on Feb 6, Gaud went to work at 7 am, and Pooja left for her job as well. At 8 pm, Pooja called her husband and he told her that he was purchasing some items from the market before going home.
Upon returning home at 11 pm, Pooja found her daughters with Gurjar. When he did not return and his phone was unreachable, Pooja initiated a search but in vain.
The police later discovered an unidentified body near the canal, which was subsequently identified as Rahul.
Investigation officer Ajaysinh Gohil said that they gathered CCTV footage from the vicinity of the victim’s house and the crime scene. The investigation revealed Gurjar’s involvement in the murder.
Police said that during questioning, Gurjar admitted that he and Dheeraj Kumar allegedly murdered Gaud to steal his Samsung Ultra S3 smartphone.
Gurjar disclosed that after Rahul returned from work, he led him to the canal. During their conversation, he fatally stabbed Gaud three times in the neck. CCTV footage showed Gurjar escorting Gaud outside his house.
Following the murder, Gurjar returned home and participated in the search efforts with Gaud’s wife, maintaining a facade of innocence.
Pooja (31), filed a police complaint against unknown persons with the Anjar police under section 103 (1) of the BNS Act. Gaud was originally from Pratapgarh district in Uttar Pradesh.
